Reflection & Your Business Mindset

Reflection is a beautiful thing; it allows us to be accountable, to improve and to learn.
No matter how old we are we always learn, I heard a classic statement yesterday “I have been in this business for 30 years and it’s never been this bad, oh I know some businesses do well BUT in this area businesses are closing, rent is high and so on….

While this might be true businesses do close down everywhere that has and will never change as sad as it is. However it is not location specific.
Businesses do very well however it’s not the business it’s the people and the product inside it.
Rent can be a killer however if you’ve been there for 30 years it didn’t just go up over night.

My clientele are older people because young people don’t spend money… what they don’t have breasts? But more to the point; why is everything in your store tailored to young people if they are not your niche?

It’s your mindset and the action you choose to take

1. If you have a negative mind then you will not do well in business.

2. Your business is constantly evolving if you are not evolving with it you will sink faster then the titanic.

3. Times change, people change and it is crucial you reassess your business model to remain an industry leader.

4. We have to educate our customers and that is our responsibility and ours solely if our customers do not understand it is not their fault it is ours for not doing our job.

5. Choose your niche not because you think it’s where the money is but because you love those people. If you love those people you will love doing your job and your customers will love you for it and therefore spend money to support you.

6. If you are listening to the wrong advice or negative advice it’s because they don’t get it, only seek advice of people who have been there and understand.

7. If you have been complaining about-
• The government
• It’s the global financial crisis,
• It’s my area,
• It’s the clientele
• It’s my overheads

Sorry to disappoint but IT IS YOU! Not any of the above, yes some things effect business however it is much easier to blame others then to be accountable which is why the majority of people will not get this because it is much harder to be accountable and to change then what it is to sit back and whine about how bad your life is…

But I know what I’d prefer! How about you are you ready for action, your choice.

What I Got From The Apprentice

As you know the Australia had it's first The Apprentice with Mark Bouris.

I found the final 3 really interesting, they were-
* One was money orientated.
* The girl was all about the outcome and didn't really think about the process, but delivered.
* The 3rd was all about the journey and delivered, but maybe not as well as the girl.

The money oriented guy got fired, the final 2 were the journey OR the destination.

WHO WON? The journey! YAY!
You see you can get to the top of the mountain however if you didn't enjoy the journey, learn from the journey it's going to be very lonely on top of the mountain because you'll be alone!

When the winner Mirello said "I don't have a University degree, but I want this job."
Mark Bouris said- You have a University Degree. Your whole life you have been at Uni because you've been IN TOUCH with people.

Which goes hand in hand with my post on Self Doubt, Are You Qualified?

The last thing I took from this was-

Mirello said that success is-
* Being true to yourself
* Being true to everyone
* Being true to your competitors
Just be yourself,

Even in business the same rules apply! Any successful business person will tell you that.

Self Doubt, Are YOU Qualified?

One of the most frequent questions I get asked about is "Self Doubt" and how to overcome it.
I think as women as Mothers we have all been there, whether we choose to admit it or not is a different story!
Especially as a new Mum your day to day life feels like it becomes so man deem and you feel so "housewife-y" as much as you know that it's not the case and you are doing it for a great reason, you still feel that way. The visitors have gone, your partners back at work and it's just you and little baby and you're up to your elbows in dirty nappies, breast milk, vomit and running on 2 hours sleep. Completely cut off from the outside world. Your life has come to a complete halt and for the first few weeks you think the whole world has as well.
However you soon realise that life is going on and people are moving forward except you! You feel meaningless because you aren't doing anything constructive. We have all been there and to be perfectly honest I don't miss it at all! I LOVE my girls but man those early days tough.... But if you're still there it does get easier I promise you that. You are a GREAT Mum and you are doing a GREAT job!

Maybe your self doubt comes from you not feeling "qualified" to do what you do?

I know a few friends of mine that have the notion of "If you don't have a certificate or diploma then you aren't qualified"
I am and always have been I gigantic believer in "Knowledge is Power" but I don't think that always comes in the shape of a piece of paper (maybe that's why I'm not married to my partner of 11 years :)

* Life experience gives you a much needed lesson, one you can not be taught.
* You can learn HEAPS from a book but put it into practice and that's when it all comes together, yes?

I know those of you thinking Doctors, Dentists blah blah. Obviously in order to do most professions you need training in some shape or form and education IS crucial for everyone and you have to be taught, that is not what I am taking about.

For example I know a female Paediatrician who after all of her children returned to work after just 2 weeks of giving birth for 1 day a week just so she didn't lose her confidence within her profession. By doing that 1 day a week it kept her fresh and up to date with everything so when the time come she could and did go back full time.

So no matter what qualification you do have if any, we at some stage or another will doubt ourselves. But one way to get over that and avoid it is to be proactive and hands on, experience gives you confidence. You may have your degree but tell me on the first day on the day you felt confident? No way! If you did cheers to you :)

After my first child I lost my confidence and it took awhile to restore it and I am a very confident person but having Maddison changed that. However after Milly I worked right up to when she was born and return to work within a week of being home (I work from home so that of course enabled me to do that. We all don't have that luxury)

If you are self doubting yourself try to write down a list of everything you do and have learned, guaranteed you will realise that all the courses you have done, training you have been apart of, the hands on experience you have had, the life experiences good and bad you have learned from have made you a great person, who know buckets loads and you are capable of anything you want!

I have been through alot and learned alot personally through out my years, my profession has taken me around the globe giving me the opportunity to do many courses, training by many industry leaders, I have a wide variety of experience in many fields, I have a strong managerial background running over nearly 15 years. I have oodles upon oodles of certificates in so many different areas. However what do I have a diploma in? Hairdressing!
I define me! Life has taught me, I create my success, training/diplomas/Certificates just gives me the right to execute it and pass on my knowledge and experience.

High School Drop Outs You May Know-
*Jimmy Dean
*Richard Branson (Virgin)
*Henry Ford (Ford Motor Company)
*Dave Thomas (Wendy's)
*Anne Beiler (Auntie Annie's Pretzels)
*Liz Claiborne
*Marcus Loews (Loews threatres)

I am not saying to drop out of High School! STAY THERE!
However success is what YOU make it. It is not given to you, YOU HAVE TO GO OUT THERE AND GET IT. GO!

How to be Successful!

I love meeting inspirational women, who know what they want and go after it. I love the passion and determination behind their eyes. I love it even more when their passion and determination is paying off for them.

How to be Successful!

• Know what you want
• Be passionate about it
• Have a clear picture of what you want and write it down.
• DO NOT stray from your vision! It‘s easy to spread yourself too thin thinking by doing so you’ll cater for more people. You will not.
• Have your niche, master it, THEN think about expanding.
• Perfection is the poison of all possibility- Do things well however if you are waiting for perfect it will NEVER be so it will never happen. We evolve, things evolve. Do it well now, don’t wait.
• Follow your gut- Trust yourself don’t under estimate the power of your intuition.
• Love yourself and treat people the way you like to be treated.
• Don't think Why? - think Why not?

Have I missed anything?

Changing Careers in the Australian Job Industry!

“If you got offered your dream job but for ½ the money would you take it?”
“Do you know what your dream job is?”

So many people don’t, that is what inspired me to do this post.
I found when you hit your 30’s that is the time you start to dislike your job! You’ve been in it for years you may be over it but don’t know what else to do.
BUT chances are you have a mortgage, kids and it really isn’t the time you want to be changing jobs right? Where do you start OR do even start!

Give yourself time to process everything and get used to the idea. Set aside time for each step so you are actually being proactive about this.

The only way to find a job you truly love is if you-
• Do not to give yourself a job title or think about what you think may be a good job.
• Go through the steps to identify your passions and interests, your abilities and skills, your values and natural desires.

ASK YOURSELF: -
Step 1: Why Do You Want To Change Careers?
• Are you bored,
• You have no room for growth,
• Your colleagues,
• It is no longer challenging you,
• You would like to down size your responsibility,
Note- Try to look at a career change as moving forward and growing, not as escapism.

Step 2: Create Goals & Personal Vision

Your goal is to find a job that you will love for years to come. So be open!
Ask yourself-
• What hours do you want to work?
• What is salary do you have in mind; remember you still need to live comfortably?
• Are you prepared to travel, if so how far?

Do you see yourself?
• Working inside, outside, office, shop.
• Do you have an idea as to work kind of position or tasks you would like to do? I.e. Computers, Clothes, Dogs, Marketing etc
• Would you like a managerial job, if so what level?
• Perhaps you see yourself as an entrepreneur?
• Would you consider self-employment?

Do you have any special requirements such as-
- Paid Maternity Leave
- Day Care Facilities
- Ability to work for home when required
- On Site Gym
Try to outline everything you would like, that way you can get a clearer picture and you are creating a vision and specific goals. This will help you in finding your ideal job.

Step 3: Do you have a hobby or something you’re passionate about?
I hear all too often “I just work for money, I don’t need to love it” Why deny yourself happiness? If you can get paid for what you love doing wouldn’t you prefer that?
• What are your hobbies?
• What were your favorite subjects in school?
• Do you have a favorite section in a book store?
• What puts a fire in your belly? Besides chilli,
• Do you go to a section of the newspaper first?
• Do you still like any aspects of your current job?
• What do you like to talk about?

Start to take notes of what makes you happy or takes your interest. Write it down over a couple of weeks, is there a pattern emerging?

Step 4: What Are Your Values?
Have you thought about the possibility that the reason you may be unhappy is because you don’t believe in your company, their beliefs or their products?
Try to identify what your values are? You may have thought about it as a parent or a partner but not about your job!
Ask yourself this-
• What are you most proud of?
• What legacy do you want to leave behind?
• Who dead or alive would you most like to meet and why?
• What makes you angry?
• What makes you laugh?
• Favorite book- What is the theme?
• Favorite movie- What is the theme?
• Out of all of the world’s problems what would you fix?
• Are you an introvert or extravert
• Do you like tangible or intangible

Step 5: What are Your Skills?
Look at past resumes, performance reviews and also add what you would like to do.
• It may be your natural ability
• A skill you have picked up along the way in your career
• Courses you have taken,
• On-the-job training
• A degree you have
• A trade you have

Step 6: Put It Altogether! Plan of Attack!

Go through each step and write down your Top 3 to 5 answers to each question.
• Goals
• Vision
• Passions and Interests
• Values
• Skills
Once you have gathered your information you can-
• Speak to a career adviser
• Go to a Career Expo
• Talk to friends and family about your list and see if they can identify a job using your list.
• Research on the internet
• What are you seeing for yourself, have any ideas come to mind?
• See a recruitment agency once you start to get a picture of what it is you desire.
Just Ensure-
• Do not make any rash decisions
• Speak it over with loved ones
• Your financial security
• Be honest with yourself about what you want
• Be patient and persistent
• Step outside your comfort zone, you always work better out of it!

Be safe, be happy, good luck!

Small Business & Social Media

I read this post this morning and I know so many Small Businesses are hesitate to start networking via social media OR don't know where to start.

This is a wonderful post that answers all of those unknown questions you have.
I wish I had read this 12 months ago when I was flying blind when I just entered this new arena!

But now it's available to YOU!

Ideas for Social Media Types (from a Small Business Owner)
by Mark on August 11, 2009
Full disclosure: I own a small business, which happens to be a hotel (B&B), and I use social media.

The Customer Cult
When I lived on the Pacific Island of Papua New Guinea I was fascinated with the Cargo Cult religious movement that some of the villagers (that I knew quite well) believed in.
Members of the Cargo Cult have the basic conviction that manufactured goods (cargo) such as radios, televisions, cars, and refrigerators will fall from the sky (or somehow magically appear) if they just believe and pray hard enough.
Many small business owners, who are new to the medium of social media as a method of promotion for their venture, have a sort of an analogous “Customer Cult” mentality.
Meaning, these particular business owners have the misconception that as soon as they sign up with various social media sites, customers are going to fall from the sky in droves and they’ll immediately be inundated with more business than they can handle.
Social Media and Small Business
Presently, within the social media and small business communities, we find ourselves facing an interesting dichotomy.
There are many small business owners who would like to use social media to help with online promotion, but they aren’t necessarily familiar with the tools and how to use them effectively.
Likewise, there are many well qualified social media professionals who have never owned a small business, and as such, they are not necessarily aware of the every day struggles that small business owner’s face. READ MORE

Crazy Week for The Bra Queen!

I have had the biggest week EVER! And it's only Wednesday.

It's amazing how your life can turn around so quickly. As you know I got featured in The Age on Monday, Tuesday I got to share my passion with 140 women, which was just fantastic hosted by the lovely Josie from Klass Events.

FINALLY! Our slab went down on our house.

I feel like this is my turning point. So like anything new it's really exciting but I must admit the butterflies in my tummy are having to share a space with my nervous twitches as well!

So today I think I need to sit down with a cup of tea and let everything digest and sink in. So then I can plan my next move!

Me in a Nutshell!

Everyone has a passion in life, if you haven’t find one! Mine is making people feel good.
I love the satisfaction I get when I fit a woman for a bra and the confidence it brings her.
Knowledge is power. Everyone needs to know what a great fitting bra looks like and shape is just as important.
Now for women with big boobs most of us have gone through our lives with ill fitted bras or something that looks like we stole it from our Grandmother (no offense Granny)
It became my mission to find nice bras for bigger busts. Like every woman I like to feel good about myself, but well I'm so sick of buying Nana bras.

Not one Australian company makes QUALITY bras that actually do what they are suppose too.
So I thought bigger, I began to source and research Lingerie in Fuller Cups on a world wide scale. Well it paid off because I found that beautiful, sexy bras are made for larger cup size ladies.
I took it further; I thought "Well I just don’t want to wear sexy bras on weekends or special occasions. I want to feel that way everyday!"

So I sourced Lingerie Sets that are supportive AND sexy.

And that is the entire Alluring Lingerie collection.

Each bra has been carefully sourced to ensure it is cutting edge fashion, great shape and support but most importantly of the high quality at an affordable price.

One Life, One Chance.
That’s a bit scary when you think of your life like that!
Everyone is so busy, so time poor and I really can’t remember lives ever being this crazy can you?

We need to start enjoying life
Think about what makes you feel good?

• If you are a spiritual person you will believe you have a core.
• If you are a scientific person you will believe you have a chemical balance.
• If you are a builder you will believe you are structurally sound.
• If you are into computers you will believe in your hard drive.

No matter whom you are or what you believe in. Everyone has a core that balances you and makes you feel right.

If you’re off centre, you don’t have sound scaffolding or you are missing your hard drive.
You can’t function to your full potential. It is like wearing an uncomfortable or ill fitted bra. It will kind of do the job maybe but not well, and in the long run not at all.

So think of a bra as setting the foundation, if you get that right the rest will just fall into place. Improve posture, it’s slimming, extremely comfortable and it will make your clothes look nicer but most importantly it will give you confidence it will make you feel good.

It’s something so small that will make such a huge difference in how you feel everyday. It will put a bit of pepper in our step.

A friend of mine bought one of my lingerie sets and when I asked her how she was enjoying them she said “Great, I love them. I save them for when I go out”

Now I don’t know about you BUT I have 2 kids and my going out days are few and far between.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you work, what you do, it’s all totally irrelevant. It’s about feeling good within YOU.

And that starts from within. One way to do that is to wear nice lingerie EVERYDAY. I don’t care if I’m doing housework or running around after my girls or in a corporate meeting. It makes me feel good so I do it. If I feel good I’m a better Mother, Partner and Business Owner. I am much more positive and proactive through out my day.

It is not going to solve your problems or fix the world however it will clear your head and give you confidence so you can tackle everything you need to.

So what is a good fit?

You want it nice and snug around your back on the loosest hook and even from front to back. If it rides up your back it’s too big! It will put your back out.

Cups- You wants your whole breast to be in the cup, no gapping or spillage and underwire is to be flush against your chest.

Straps- You should be able to fit a finger under them.

Shape- Is just as important, in a nut shell.
Most bras you see these days are the triangle shaped ones. These are good if your breasts haven’t gone south.

Balcony cut bras are great for a smaller cup it will give you lift and shape and make them look fuller.

Then you have the in between it’s kind of like your sweetheart neckline. These are best for bigger busts whether our full or even if they have gone south. They give great shape, lift and will give you the support you need so you won’t want to rip them at the end of the day.

Go for it! Your Life, you're choice accountability IS the new black!

Why in the world would you own a business?

My whole life this is what I have always wanted to own my own business.
Why I really don’t know it was just what was in my heart. So I followed.

When you do your market research, your business plans and everything else you need to do. You read all of the material and as much as they say ‘There are little to no rewards in the beginning’ you say ‘That’s OK, I know and that’s fine’.

Then you open and it feels like FINALLY! We’re here.
Reality: NO YOU ARE NOT!

You haven’t even started. The fun starts here!
Now you have to make sales, marketing, networking, promotions, accounting, and orders blah blah blah.

So the excitement and adrenalin soon becomes stress, fatigue, exhaustion. The smile lines turn into frown lines because you know what ‘There are little to no rewards in the beginning’

The time, dedication, consistency, motivation and the passion it takes consumes you. It’s what you live it’s what you breathe! It’s the first thing you think about in the morning and last thing you about at night and if that’s not enough

YOU WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND THINK ABOUT IT!

Then something happens “BOOM” your light bulb moment!

It’s not what is on the other side, it’s about the journey.

So you STOP!

You realise that your job will never be done. There will always be something that needs improving, fixing or updating. You and your business is constantly evolving and YOU need to enjoy the process and trust the process and know that everything that has gone wrong and right has brought you here to this very moment right here and right now.

When you realise that from the bottom of your heart this is what you live and breathe for.
I didn’t do this to make money I do it because I LOVE IT. I do it because it is my mission to make women feel good about themselves everyday.

Why? Because we deserve too! If we feel good then our partners, our kids, our family and our colleagues feel good too and we can enjoy the journey together.

So to answer my question Why am I in Business?

Because I LOVE to make women feel good and I want to make as many women as possible feel good. That’s why!

The Creation of Bra Queen…

I had no breasts until I was in Year 11. Then well they just didn’t stop growing! I had no idea what size I was. I would just pick them up and think “Yeah they will fit”

Until my big sister took me to get “professionally fitted” and I was 12DD so I just continued to buy them in a 12DD (34DD). Over the years I continued to get back pain because my breasts just kept putting my back out.

Then I got fitted again and she said I was a 10FF (32FF). I was in the largest lingerie store in Australia and they didn’t have one bra to fit me. This drove me crazy because I just didn’t understand why?

So it became my mission to find nice bras in my size. I’m relatively young and like to feel good about myself, but well I was so sick of buying Nana bras.

Then I thought well if I feel that way surely all ladies that are blessed with big boobs feel the same way!

P.S I no longer have ANY back pain.
